Dubai Business Women Council President meets British delegation including Stephanie Edwards, Director, Customer 1st International

Mrs. Raja Easa Al-Gurg, President of the Dubai Business Women Council (DBWC), the subsidiary of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, met a delegation of British businesswomen. The delegation was headed by Mrs. Lubna Qassim, Director of UAE Relations in the British Business Group - Dubai and Northern Emirates.

It reviewed the achievements of the Emirati women in the political and economical fields that stem from the interest and the support of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President, his brother His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashed Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and their brothers, the Rulers of the Emirates. The progress of women was the result of granting them all rights to make them capable of playing a responsible role in society, it was emphasised.

Mrs. Al-Gurg underlined that Emirati woman has become capable of providing her support for development, which the State is witnessing, due to the encouragement provided to her. Al-Gurg said that such important meetings would bring views together, besides being a forum for discussing common interests and activating agreements between the parties. She mentioned that the relations between the UAE and the UK were witnessing notable developments, and there was a steady increase in the volume of commercial exchanges between the two countries.

The meeting also reviewed the growth scenario which was being boosted by the unique and strong relations between both countries in all fields. Possible ways to strengthen these relations through positive contributions from both sides in a framework of common cooperation, especially in light of the availability of opportunities, means of help and support that can be provided to investors to double their efforts in promoting the investment partnership and increasing the volume of commercial exchanges, was also discussed.

Mrs. Al-Gurg stressed the importance of communicating with businesswomen from all over the world, and strengthening relations among them to find a common base where they can build wider prospects of fruitful cooperation, enhanced by the establishment of joint investment projects benefiting both sides.

The visit, which was organized by the Dubai Representative Office in UK & Ireland of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing based in London, was with the aim of educating the British businesswomen about the successful experience of Dubai businesswoman and the position she occupies in the field of business, besides exploring the investment opportunities and investing environment in Dubai.

The visiting delegation expressed its admiration for the notable position of businesswomen in the UAE and their ability to break through into many fields, especially the field of business and investment. Mrs. Fayha Sultan, Commerce Marketing Manager, Dubai Representative Office in UK & Ireland commended the DBWC and the vital role it played to strengthen and enforce the position of businesswomen in Dubai. The importance of finding common channels to create projects that benefit both sides was also stressed.

Stephanie Edwards, Director, Customer 1st International expressed, "I came to Dubai with an open mind and I was amazed to find so many business opportunities available to the ladies in the UAE. The Dubai Business Women Council particularly displayed so much passion, enthusiasm and motivation towards ensuring Dubai would be a world class destination for both businesses and tourists alike".

About the Dubai Business Women Council

Its mission is to proactively encourage business and professional women in Dubai to participate in a variety of business segments in order to enhance the contribution, productivity and activity of business and professional women locally and internationally.

Its objectives are the following:

  1. To represent the DBWC at Arab and international conferences and forums related to business and professional women.
  2. To cooperate with local and international institutions to increase awareness about the council and to share and contribute business ideas between the business women and different organizations.
  3. To negotiate problems that women face at the workplace and find solutions and recommendations to solve these problems.
  4. Providing facilities and introducing business women to the Dubai Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), its services and activities.
  5. Organizing networking opportunities by inviting business women
